Following last month's trailers for Club Kid, Paper Tiger, and Josephine, a slew of potential Oscar contenders have released new trailers:

Digger, North American Release Date: October 2

The film boasts an incredibly prestigious lineup behind the camera. Directed by two-time Academy Award winner Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman, The Revenant), the film is written by Iñárritu, Sabina Berman and Oscar Best Original Screenplay winners Alexander Dinelaris Jr. and Nicolás Giacobone (Birdman). Three-time Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity, Birdman, The Revenant) reunites with the director as the Director of Photography. The film is edited by long-time collaborator and Oscar winner Stephen Mirrione (Traffic) alongside Conor O'Neill.

La bola negra, North American Release Date: October 16

Directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, who jointly won Best Director at the festival. The star-studded cast includes Miguel Bernardeau (Elite), two-time Spanish Goya Award Best Actress winner Lola Dueñas (The Sea Inside), Oscar winner Penélope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), and Golden Globe Best Actress winner Glenn Close (The Wife).

At the cusp of the Spanish Civil War, a young man confronts his ideology and sexuality as he is conscripted into the fascist army where he becomes fascinated by a prisoner of war. Another young man in pre-dictatorship Spain finds himself blackballed from his father’s prestigious social club due to rumours about his sexuality. Finally, a young gay historian manoeuvres through his complicated family history and a unique inheritance decades after the dictatorship has ended.

You Can See Everything, North American Release Date: October 16

Directed by Nathan Fielder (The Rehearsal) and Lance Oppenheim (Primetime), this documentary premiered as a secret screening at last week's Telluride Film Festival to critical acclaim. The film focuses on Elizabeth Holmes, the Theranos founder convicted of fraud, following her life in the years surrounding her imprisonment.

Fjord, North American Release Date: October 16

This film won the 2026 Cannes Film Festival's highest honor, the Palme d'Or. It was written and directed by Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, marking his second Palme d'Or win following 2007's 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. The film stars Marvel Cinematic Universe Winter Soldier actor and A Different Man Golden Globe Best Actor winner Sebastian Stan, alongside Renate Reinsve, the Cannes Best Actress winner for The Worst Person in the World.

Lisbet (Renate Reinsve) and Mihai Gheorghiu (Sebastian Stan) are a conservative Christian couple who’ve relocated from Romania to an isolated Norwegian town with their five children. Unlike their new neighbours, the Gheorghius enforce daily bible study and don’t allow trappings like smartphones and YouTube. The family’s rigid beliefs cause a stir when one of the children is accused of introducing religious bias into their school by criticizing another student’s sexual orientation. This, however, is just the beginning of the family’s problems. When a teacher notices a bruise on another of their kids, a cascade of events — mimicking the avalanches we see behind the schoolyard in the icy locale — is set in motion.

Unlike her strong-willed husband, Lisbet, Norwegian by birth, is fluent in the local language and adept at navigating cultural nuances. Meanwhile, Mihai, steadfast in what he sees as his right to educate his offspring as he sees fit, admits to the occasional spanking. This triggers a storm of controversy.

Musk, North American Release Date: October 16

This documentary is directed by Oscar and Emmy winner Alex Gibney. Elon Musk has amassed so much power, he’s like a character in a Marvel comic book. A short recap of his handiwork: Tesla popularized electric vehicles; Starlink expanded the reach of the internet; Twitter bowed to his takeover; and DOGE radically transformed the US government. Musk has been at the centre of AI development and this past summer, the IPO for SpaceX made him the richest man in the world. His influence arguably touches everyone on the planet. Surely this is worth fresh scrutiny.

After nearly four years of work, Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney delivers his most ambitious and epic documentary, seeking to understand the history and motivations of the ultimate tech bro. When this film was first announced, Musk immediately denounced it on Twitter and refused to participate. But that didn’t impede Gibney, who draws upon countless hours of interviews that Musk has given over the years. Even more revealingly, Gibney conducts new interviews with figures who have known Musk up close and personal, including the mogul’s father, Errol Musk.

The news cycle moves so fast, it’s hard to remember that Musk was once at home among liberals, with his companies promoting clean energy and invoicing the Obama administration for hundreds of millions in tech contracts. What drove him into the world of Donald Trump?

Musk frequently invokes science fiction stories and has coyly wondered aloud if we’re living in a video game–like simulation. Playing off this idea, Gibney leans visually into an innovative graphic treatment throughout the film. But make no mistake: this is really happening.

Once Upon a Time in Harlem, North American Release Date: October 16

One afternoon in August 1972, at the behest of legendary, genre-defying filmmaker William Greaves, a coterie of luminaries from the Harlem Renaissance gathered — with cameras rolling — for an intimate party in Duke Ellington’s townhouse. Fifty years later, completed by Greaves’ son David, Once Upon a Time in Harlem has emerged as a rapturous living archive of one of the most important artistic movements of the 20th century and, posthumously, one of the most important works in the Greaves filmography.

A towering constellation of artists, poets, painters, musicians, scholars, and other notables appear throughout — among them Aaron Douglas, Arna Bontemps, Richard Bruce Nugent, James Van Der Zee, and Countee Cullen’s widow, Ida Mae Cullen. Free from any institutionalized gaze and structure, they congregate around a large punch bowl to drink, reminisce, banter, and passionately debate their legacy. The conversations we’re privy to flow naturally and candidly, marked variously by humour, fervour, reflexive insight, and not a bit of melancholy, as they take stock of their achievements in their older age.

Possible Love, Streaming on Netflix on November 6

Directed by Lee Chang-dong, Venice Film Festival Silver Lion for Best Director winner for Oasis, the film stars Cannes Film Festival Best Actress winner Jeon Do-yeon (Secret Sunshine) and three-time Blue Dragon Film Award Best Actor winner Sul Kyung-gu (The Book of Fish) as a married couple, alongside Baeksang Arts Award Best Actor winner Zo In-sung (Something Happened in Bali) and Blue Dragon Film Award Best Actress winner Cho Yeo-jeong (Parasite) as another married couple. Additionally, Jung Jae-il, who won a Grand Bell Award for Parasite, serves as the film's music composer.

Every couple wants to find some sense of happiness. For Ho-seok (Sul Kyung-gu) and Mi-ok (Jeon Do-yeon) the hope is to move on from the trauma caused by the disastrous outcome of a labour dispute. When they are approached by young, ambitious documentary filmmaker Ye-ji (Cho Yeo-jeong) to take part in her latest project, they become intimately intertwined with her and her business mogul husband, Sang-woo (Zo In-sung).

Revelations of interpersonal suffering come to light — both in front of and behind the camera — as the documentary develops, and tensions between the couples start to rise. Questions are asked around who gets to tell whose story, who speaks for whom, and what responsibilities observers have when taking on the perspective of the disenfranchised. As the lives of Ye-ji, Mi-ok, Sang-woo, and Ho-seok become increasingly entangled, tensions mount.

All of a Sudden, North American Release Date: November 25

Directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, the Oscar-winning director of Drive My Car, this marks his first French-language feature. The film stars César Award winner Virginie Efira (Benedetta) and Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine), who jointly won the Best Actress award at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Director of a care facility for the elderly, Marie-Lou strives to introduce an innovative care philosophy based on listening and respecting residents’ dignity, despite resistance from part of her staff. Her encounter with Mari, a Japanese theater director battling cancer, will profoundly reshape her path. By forming a deep, supportive friendship, the two women join forces in a shared struggle to “make the impossible possible.”

Ink, North American Release Date: December 11

This biographical drama is directed by Academy Award Best Director winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire). The screenplay is written by James Graham (The Crown), adapted from his own Tony-nominated 2017 stage play of the same name. The cast features a trio of heavy-hitting British and Australian talent:

Emmy winner Guy Pearce (Mildred Pierce) stars as the young, ambitious Rupert Murdoch;
Jack O'Connell (Sinners) plays Larry Lamb, the rogue editor Murdoch recruited to transform The Sun into a populist tabloid; and
Emmy Outstanding Lead Actress Claire Foy (The Crown)

Rupert Murdoch (Guy Pearce) persuades newspaper editor Larry Lamb (Jack O’Connell) to oversee his newly acquired but flagging daily, The Sun. But how to grab readers in the highly competitive British media market? Be extreme, throwing anything onto the page that will make a splash, the more titillating, the better. The tactic works, and soon the notorious Sun sees a massive spike in circulation.

The goal of casting a wide net for new readers creates just enough space for one woman (Claire Foy) to break through and pitch articles with a modern woman’s perspective. It’s not long before she starts to brush against the limits of the prevailing boys’ club culture within the industry. And as readership numbers rise, so do the paper’s detractors.

Artificial, North American Release Date: December 25

This comedy-drama is directed by Luca Guadagnino, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Call Me By Your Name and the Silver Bear-winning Bones and All. The film centers on the high-stakes corporate drama at OpenAI, specifically the chaotic period in November 2023 when CEO Sam Altman was abruptly fired and then reinstated just days later. The film features a massive ensemble cast playing the real-world figures of the tech industry:

Golden Globe Best Actor winner Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick... Boom!) as Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI;

Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown) as Mira Murati, former Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI;

Yura Borisov (Anora) as Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI;

Ike Barinholtz (The Studio) as Elon Musk, co-founder of OpenAI and CEO of Tesla; and

Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) as Greg Brockman, president of OpenAI

The expansive supporting cast includes Jason Schwartzman (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Chris O'Dowd (The IT Crowd), and Oscar winner Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies).

Originally slated for distribution by Amazon before the studio dropped the project in June, the film was acquired by Neon and will make its world premiere at the New York Film Festival next month.
