Robert Pattinson Steps Into Chris Hansen’s Shoes in A24’s ‘To Catch a Predator’ Drama ‘Primetime’
Following his standout performance in last month’s blockbuster The Odyssey, Robert Pattinson is gearing up for his next theatrical release: the A24 crime thriller Primetime.
Directed by Lance Oppenheim, Primetime is scheduled to hit North American theaters on September 25, 2026. Before its wide release, the film will make its world premiere in the main competition section at the Venice Film Festival in early September, standing out as one of the few Hollywood entries at this year’s festival. Robert Pattinson (The Odyssey) leads the cast as investigative TV presenter Chris Hansen. He stars alongside Emmy winner Merritt Wever (Godless), Skyler Gisondo (Santa Clarita Diet), and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers. Former NBCUniversal chairman Jeff Zucker also makes a cameo appearance as himself.
Primetime chronicles the creation and ultimate downfall of To Catch a Predator, the controversial reality television series hosted by Chris Hansen that aired from 2004 to 2007 as part of NBC's news magazine Dateline. Produced in collaboration with the civilian watchdog organization Perverted Justice, the program set up sting operations where production teams lured men suspected of attempting to solicit minors online to pre-rigged "trap houses." Hansen would then confront the suspects on camera, backed by police officers waiting on site. The series was ultimately canceled following severe ethical and legal backlashes—most notably after a suspect shot and killed himself when police and NBC camera crews raided his home, sparking widespread public outrage and legal scrutiny.

In addition to his theatrical slate, Pattinson has completed filming on Here Comes the Flood, the latest feature from City of God director Fernando Meirelles, which is reportedly slated to premiere on Netflix in 2027.
