Saving the World from a Smile: The First Trailer for Vince Gilligan's Sci-Fi Series Pluribus
Pluribus, the highly anticipated new series from Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is set to premiere next month. Apple TV+ recently released the official teaser of the show.
Pluribus will debut its first two episodes on Apple TV+ on November 7th, with new episodes released every Friday thereafter. The series is created by Vince Gilligan, the mastermind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. It stars Better Call Saul's Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul), Karolina Wydra (True Blood), and Carlos Manuel Vesga. Miriam Shor (Younger) and Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death) will make guest appearances. In addition to Vince Gilligan, Better Call Saul screenwriters Gordon Smith and Alison Tatlock also appear to be involved as writers. The plot summary provided by Apple TV+ is intentionally vague, stating that "the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness." Despite the series not having premiered yet, Apple TV+ has already renewed it for a second season, showing strong confidence in Vince Gilligan's vision.
Vince Gilligan previously wrote and directed the sci-fi series The X-Files three decades ago, marking his return to the science fiction genre with Pluribus. His groundbreaking series Breaking Bad, which premiered in 2008, is widely regarded as one of the best television dramas in American history. It won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series, with its three lead actors Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, and Anna Gunn collectively winning four, three, and two Emmys respectively for their performances. In 2015, Vince Gilligan and Breaking Bad co-creator Peter Gould launched the prequel series Better Call Saul, centered on Breaking Bad supporting character Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk). While Better Call Saul is also considered one of America's greatest TV series and received seven Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, it never won a major Emmy Award. Rhea Seehorn, for instance, was nominated twice for Outstanding Supporting Actress but did not win. Gilligan also wrote and directed El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie in 2019, a sequel to Breaking Bad that provided a conclusion to Jesse Pinkman's (Aaron Paul) story. This film won the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best TV Movie.
In the past two months, Apple TV+ also released the below clips, with the plot of the show staying vague.
Among the various streaming platforms, Apple TV+ has consistently delivered high-quality science fiction series, including For All Mankind, Foundation, Severance, Silo, and this year's new show Murderbot. Notably, Severance Season 2 won Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress (Britt Lower) and Outstanding Supporting Actor (Tramell Tillman) this year while the new comedy show from Apple TV+, The Studio swept four major awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor (Seth Rogen), Outstanding Directing (Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg), and Outstanding Writing (Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez), solidifying its position as the big winner in the comedy category.
