Coming This July! Superman Official Trailer Released!!

Following the trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 just a few days ago, DC has now released the official trailer for Superman, the first film in their rebooted DC Universe:

Superman is set to hit North American theaters on July 11th. The film is written and directed by James Gunn, the co-chairman and co-CEO of the DC Universe and the director and writer of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, and was shot entirely with IMAX-certified digital cameras. As the first live-action movie in the rebooted DC Universe, the film features an entirely new cast for its iconic comic book characters, including David Corenswet (The Politician) as Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult (the X-Men series) as the villain Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi (For All Mankind) as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion (Castle) as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Hawkgirl.

From the trailer, the tone and cinematography of this film don't seem to have the darkness of the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU). However, its lighting and colour have a somewhat distinct look, and whether that's good or bad will have to be determined when the film is released. James Gunn's previous work for Marvel on the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and for DC on The Suicide Squad had a more lighthearted and comedic tone, so it's likely that this Superman film won't be too somber and will emphasize the theme of "hope."

In addition to the trailer, DC has also released the following new poster:

Similar to other cinematic universes, the DC Universe will feature connections between different films and series, with characters appearing across various projects. Notably, Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), the protagonist of Creature Commandos, the animated series that premiered last December and marked the first project of the new DC Universe, will appear in the Superman film. He will later join Hawkgirl, Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn) from this movie in the second season of Peacemaker, which premieres in August. Green Lantern Guy Gardner is also one of the main characters in the currently filming Green Lantern live-action series Lanterns. Furthermore, María Gabriela de Faría and Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) will play Angela Spica/The Engineer and Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, respectively, in this film. They are then expected to appear in the upcoming The Authority and next year's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie.

In 2022, Warner Bros. decided to reboot the DC film franchise, bringing in James Gunn and Aquaman series producer Peter Safran as co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios. In 2023, they announced the initial slate of projects for the DC Universe's first chapter, "Gods and Monsters," which includes the aforementioned projects, as well as a Clayface movie, a Batman movie titled The Brave and the Bold, a Swamp Thing movie, an Amanda Waller series, a Wonder Woman-related series titled Paradise Lost, and a Booster Gold series.
