New DC Universe! Peacemaker Season 2 Teaser Trailer Released!!
Following the reboot of the DC Universe, this summer will see the release of the first live-action film, Superman, and the second season of the live-action series Peacemaker. Max recently dropped the teaser trailer for Peacemaker:
Peacemaker Season 2 is set to premiere on Crave on August 21st and will consist of eight episodes, just like the first season. James Gunn, the co-chairman and co-CEO of the DC Universe and the director and writer of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, will direct three episodes and write all eight. Other directors for the season include Greg Mottola (Paul), Peter Sollett (Metal Lords), and Alethea Jones. In addition to the return of the main cast from the previous season, new cast members this season include Frank Grillo, who voices Rick Flag Sr. in the DC Universe's first project, the animated series Creature Commandos; Sol Rodríguez, who will play the comic book character Sasha Bordeaux; "Saturday Night Live" comedian Tim Meadows; and David Denman (The Office). Gunn's longtime collaborator, Michael Rooker from the Guardians of the Galaxy films, will also appear.
Judging from the trailer, one of the storylines this season will revolve around the protagonist Peacemaker/Christopher Smith (John Cena) being hunted by Rick Flag Sr. and A.R.G.U.S., forcing him to confront his past mistakes—specifically, his killing of Rick Flag Sr.'s son, Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman), in the 2021 film The Suicide Squad. On the other hand, this season will also integrate into the new DC Universe, with three characters who will appear in the Superman film—Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Green Lantern / Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn)—already making appearances in the trailer. Furthermore, while the first season of Peacemaker was the only series from the pre-reboot DC Extended Universe (DCEU), this second season is part of the new DC Universe. It is believed that it will explain the relationship between the two cinematic universes, with the Monsters, Inc.-like doors in the trailer seemingly providing a multiverse explanation.

In 2022, Warner Bros. decided to reboot the DC film franchise, bringing in James Gunn and Aquaman series producer Peter Safran as co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios. In 2023, they announced the initial slate of projects for the DC Universe's first chapter, "Gods and Monsters," including Creature Commandos, which premiered last December; Superman, set for release in July; the film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for next year; and the currently filming live-action series Lanterns.
Typically, when a film studio reboots a film franchise, they recast the film characters, and the new films have no connection to the previous ones. However, The Suicide Squad and its spin-off series Peacemaker from the DC Extended Universe were both directed and written by James Gunn, and some of their elements will be incorporated into the new DC Universe, including the return of certain actors: Viola Davis, who plays A.R.G.U.S. director Amanda Waller, and the cast of Peacemaker. In an interview with IGN last year, James Gunn also clarified how the plots of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker Season 1 will fit into the DC Universe—certain plot points from these two projects will be referenced in DC Universe films and series, and those plot points will be considered official DC Universe canon. Creature Commandos, for instance, already mentioned Rick Flag Jr.'s death in the Suicide Squad storyline, thus making it part of the new DC Universe's canon, which Peacemaker Season 2 will now continue.
