Nicolas Cage May Star in True Detective Season 5!
True Detective Season 5 may be set to star another Oscar-winning actor: Nicolas Cage.

Yesterday, Deadline reported that Oscars Best Actor winner Nicolas Cage (Leaving Las Vegas, the National Treasure franchise) is in talks with HBO to star in the anthology series True Detective Season 5, where he would portray a New York City detective. The previous season's showrunner, Issa Lopez, is set to return to create the new season. The story will be set in Jamaica Bay, New York, with production expected to begin next year and a premiere slated for 2027.
Premiering in 2014, each season of True Detective follows a different story, set of characters, and location, and has always featured an award-winning cast.
Season 1 starred Oscar Best Actor winner Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) and Emmy winner Woody Harrelson (Cheers, the Hunger Games franchise) and was set in Louisiana.
Season 2 starred two-time Golden Globe Best Actor winner Colin Farrell (In Bruges, The Banshees of Inisherin) and Rachel McAdams (the Doctor Strange franchise) and was set in California.
Season 3 starred two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Green Book) and was set in the Ozarks.
Season 4 starred two-time Oscar Best Actress winner Jodie Foster (The Accused, The Silence of the Lambs) and Kali Reis and was set in Alaska. Foster won an Emmy for her performance.
Nicolas Cage has experienced a career resurgence in recent years, with critically acclaimed performances in Mandy, Pig, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Dream Scenario, and Longlegs. His role in Dream Scenario earned him his first Golden Globe nomination in 21 years. His upcoming projects include Madden, directed by Independent Spirit Award winner David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook), and the live-action Spider-Man series Spider-Noir, where he will return to play the character he voiced in the Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
