On the Brink of War: Netflix Teases The Diplomat Season 4 Ahead of October Premiere
Following its latest Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series, The Diplomat is set to return for its fourth season this October. Netflix recently unveiled the first official teaser trailer:
The eight-episode fourth season of The Diplomat will premiere globally on Netflix on October 15, 2026. In the previous season, Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), husband of U.S. Ambassador to the UK Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), assumed the role of Vice President of the United States. Though the couple had previously agreed to separate, Kate changed her mind months later in hopes of reconciliation. Meanwhile, she uncovered a covert conspiracy orchestrated by Hal and President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) to deceive British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) and seize Russia’s most lethal weapon. Additionally, The West Wing Emmy winner Bradley Whitford joined the cast last season as First Gentleman Todd Penn.
One catastrophic moment shatters the fragile peace Kate Wyler brokered between the US and UK, as well as the crumbling marriage she’s trying to save. While she fights to stem the bleeding, President Grace Penn and VP Hal Wyler’s conspiracy to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon hurtles the United States toward war. Kate and Todd, at best an uneasy pair, unite to stop the Grace-Hal alliance from upending the balance of power abroad and at home.
Created by Homeland writer Debora Cahn, The Diplomat debuted in 2023 to good reviews, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Series in its inaugural season. Both its second and third seasons received Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama Series. Lead actress Keri Russell has scored three consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Furthermore, Rufus Sewell and Allison Janney have earned nominations for their performances in Season 3, with winners to be announced at the Emmy Awards ceremony this September.
