James Spader’s Ultron Returns in Human Form in Marvel’s Official VisionQuest Trailer
At the recent D23 showcase, Marvel Studios not only released a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, but also dropped the first official trailer and poster for its upcoming Disney+ series, VisionQuest!
VisionQuest is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on October 14, 2026. The 8-episode series is showrun by Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard). Emmy Award-winning composer Mick Giacchino (The Penguin) will provide the original score for the show. Alongside Paul Bettany’s return as Vision, James Spader reprises his role as the menacing Ultron (Avengers: Age of Ultron)—this time appearing in a physical human form! Notably, several iconic AI characters and droids from across the MCU will also materialize in human form:

Having died in Avengers: Infinity War, Vision was rebuilt by S.W.O.R.D. using Chaos Magic in WandaVision as White Vision. After receiving the original Vision's memories during his battle with Wanda's created Vision, he flew off to discover his true identity. When VisionQuest begins, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.
Marvel has confirmed that VisionQuest serves as the final chapter in a thematic trilogy following WandaVision and Agatha All Along. In Agatha All Along, Billy Maximoff (Wiccan) inhabited the body of a deceased teenager and located the soul of his twin brother Tommy (Speed), placing him inside another body. The series ended with Billy and Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) setting out to track Tommy down. VisionQuest will likely pick up these threads via Ruaridh Mollica's character, Thomas Shepard.
This storyline further sets the stage for the Young Avengers in the MCU. Key members introduced throughout Phases 4 and 5 include:
