San Diego Comic-Con: New Trailers for 6 Highly Anticipated Series!
San Diego Comic-Con took place last weekend, where numerous streaming platforms hosted panels to promote their latest series. Here are six shows that recently dropped new trailers:
Eyes of Wakanda, Streaming on Disney+ starting August 1st
This animated anthology series consists of four episodes, featuring voice talents from Cress Williams (Black Lightning), Steve Toussaint (House of the Dragon), and Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls). Notably, Jona Xiao will voice Iron Fist.
Created by Todd Harris, Eyes of Wakanda centers on an elite group of secretive Wakandan warriors — the Hatut Zaraze. These heroes are some of the few Wakandans to venture outside of their nation’s borders, traversing the globe to retrieve valuable Vibranium artifacts. Each of the show’s four episodes is set in a different place and time, as the Hatut Zaraze infiltrate dangerous situations and fight to keep Vibranium out of enemy hands.
Peacemaker Season 2, Premiering on Crave on August 21st
This season will consist of eight episodes, just like the first season. James Gunn, the co-chairman and co-CEO of the DC Universe and the director and writer of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, will direct three episodes and write all eight. Other directors for the season include Greg Mottola (Paul), Peter Sollett (Metal Lords), and Alethea Jones. In addition to the return of the main cast from the previous season, new cast members this season include Frank Grillo, who voices Rick Flag Sr. in the DC Universe's first project, the animated series Creature Commandos; Sol Rodríguez, who will play the comic book character Sasha Bordeaux; "Saturday Night Live" comedian Tim Meadows; and David Denman (The Office). Gunn's longtime collaborator, Michael Rooker from the Guardians of the Galaxy films, will also appear.
While the first season of Peacemaker was the only series from the pre-reboot DC Extended Universe (DCEU), this second season is part of the new DC Universe. It is believed that it will explain the relationship between the two cinematic universes, with the Monsters, Inc.-like doors in the trailer seemingly providing a multiverse explanation, which could be a major focus for the DC Universe. Judging from the trailer, one of the storylines this season will revolve around the protagonist Peacemaker/Christopher Smith (John Cena) being hunted by Rick Flag Sr. and A.R.G.U.S., forcing him to confront his past mistakes—specifically, his killing of Rick Flag Sr.'s son, Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman), in the 2021 film The Suicide Squad. On the other hand, this season will also integrate into the new DC Universe, with three characters who will appear in the Superman film—Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Green Lantern / Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn)—already making appearances in the teaser trailer.
Gen V Season 2, Premiering on Prime Video on September 17th
This season, like the first, will consist of eight episodes, with the first three dropping on September 17th and new episodes released weekly thereafter. Tragically, lead actor Chance Perdomo passed away in a motorcycle accident last March while en route to a table read for the show in Toronto. The production team decided to revise the script and will not recast his role. In addition to the returning cast, Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass) will portray the new dean of Godolkin University. As a spin-off of The Boys, several cast members from that series – Chace Crawford, Valorie Curry, Nathan Mitchell, and Erin Moriarty – will guest star as The Deep, Firecracker, Black Noir II, and Starlight, respectively. In The Boys Season 4 finale, Steven Calhoun, loyal to Homelander (Antony Starr), becomes the U.S. President and declares martial law. This season of Gen V takes place after The Boys Season 4, offering audiences a glimpse into the new landscape under Homelander's rule.
In Season Two, school is back in session. As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander's iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever. Cate and Sam are celebrated heroes, while Marie, Jordan, and Emma reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss. But parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between Humans and Supes, both on and off campus. The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it.
It – Welcome to Derry, Premiering on Crave in October
This horror series serves as a prequel to the It films. It's created by writer Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman) and Brad Kane (Warrior), with Andy Muschietti, director of both It films, returning to direct. The series stars Jovan Adepo (3 Body Problem), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), Independent Spirit Award winner Taylour Paige (Zola), James Remar (Black Lightning), and Stephen Rider (Daredevil). Bill Skarsgård will also return as Pennywise the Clown.
The first season of the series is set in 1962. If it successfully gets renewed for a second and third season, they will presumably move the timeline back to 1935 (27 years prior) and then to 1908 (another 27 years prior), narrating unfortunate events from the original novel. Additionally, Chris Chalk's character is Dick Hallorann, the hotel chef from Stephen King's other classic horror novel, The Shining. It will be interesting to see how this series connects to the story of The Shining.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, Premiering on Disney+ on December 10th
This season adapts the second book in the novel series, "The Sea of Monsters", which was also adapted into a film of the same name in 2013. In addition to the returning cast from the first season, Daniel Diemer (The Half of It) will play Tyson, Percy Jackson's (Walker Scobell) cyclops half-brother. At San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, the production team announced that Levi Chrisopulos will play Nico di Angelo, son of Hades, in the third season. The third season, adapting The Titan's Curse, the third book in the series, is expected to begin filming soon.
After Camp Half-Blood’s protective border is breached, Percy Jackson embarks on an epic odyssey into the Sea of Monsters in search of his best friend Grover and the one thing that may save the camp — the Golden Fleece. With help from Annabeth, Clarisse and his newfound cyclops half-brother Tyson, Percy’s survival is crucial in the fight to stop Luke, the Titan Kronos, and their impending plan to bring down Camp Half-Blood — and ultimately, Olympus.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Premiering on Paramount+ in 2026
This series is created by Alex Kurtzman, who have worked on multiple Star Trek films and series, and Noga Landau. It is set in the 32nd century, the same era as Star Trek: Discovery, and will follow the first class of Starfleet Academy cadets in over a century, as they navigate campus life in San Francisco and aboard the U.S.S. Athena. Season two of the series is expected to begin filming this summer.
Oscars Best Actress winner Holly Hunter (The Piano) will play the chancellor of the Starfleet Academy and captain of the USS Athena. Robert Picardo, from Star Trek: Voyager, will return as the holographic teacher "The Doctor." Star Trek: Discovery stars Tig Notaro and Oded Fehr will also reprise their roles. Additionally, Golden Globe Best Actor winner Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers) will play this season's villain. Since Star Trek: Discovery, the franchise has ventured into various genres, including an anthology series, an adult animated series, and a TV movie. With this new series focusing on younger characters, it remains to be seen if it can attract a new generation of viewers.
This show is about a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
