Carrie White may be picked on by her classmates, but she has a gift. She can move things with her mind. Doors lock. Candles fall. This is her power and her problem. Then, an act of kindness, as spontaneous as the vicious taunts of her classmates, offers Carrie a chance to be a normal...until an unexpected cruelty turns her gift into a weapon of horror and destruction that no one will ever forget.

Mike Flanagan has primarily directed and created horror films and series. His earlier works include Oculus and Ouija: Origin of Evil. His three most recent films are all adaptations of Stephen King's works: Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep (a sequel to The Shining), and The Life of Chuck, which is set to be released in North America this month. Since 2018, he has created and directed five horror series for Netflix: The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher. Notably, Samantha Sloyan, mentioned above, appeared in four of these series. In 2022, he signed a deal with Prime Video to produce series for them, including the aforementioned Carrie and an adaptation of another Stephen King work, The Dark Tower. In film, he is set to direct a reboot of The Exorcist series and has penned the screenplay for DC's Clayface film.

Carrie has been adapted into films multiple times. The first film, Carrie, was released in 1976, directed by Brian De Palma (Scarface, Mission: Impossible). Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie starred as Carrie White and Margaret White, respectively, with both earning Academy Award nominations. The novel was most recently adapted into a film in 2013, starring Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass), Judy Greer (Halloween), Portia Doubleday (Mr. Robot), and Academy Award winner Julianne Moore (Still Alice).
