A 13th-Century Nightmare: Watch the Haunting First Trailer for Robert Eggers’ Werwulf

Following his acclaimed horror features centering on witches and vampires, director Robert Eggers is tackling werewolf mythology in his upcoming film, Werwulf.

Werwulfis scheduled to hit theaters in North America on December 25, 2026. The film is directed by Robert Eggers (Nosferatu), who co-wrote the screenplay with Sjón, his co-writer from The Northman. Following his exploration of witchcraft in The Witch and vampires in Nosferatu, Eggers' latest project dives into a 13th-century English werewolf folklore tale. The film reunites Nosferatu stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe, alongside Ralph Ineson, the lead actor from The Witch.

Robert Eggers stands as one of modern Hollywood's most visually distinct and celebrated horror filmmakers. In addition to his folk-horror foundations in The Witchand Nosferatu, his filmography includes the psychological thriller The Lighthouse and the gritty Viking revenge epic The Northman, with all four features receiving good reviews. Eggers previously won Best First Feature and Best First Screenplay at the Independent Spirit Awards for The Witch. Meanwhile, The Lighthouse secured Independent Spirit Awards for Best Supporting Male (Willem Dafoe) and Best Cinematography. His latest film, Nosferatu, went on to earn four Academy Award nominations in technical categories and won Best Cinematography at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards.
