Andrew Garfield Leads a Medieval Class War in the First Trailer for Paul Greengrass’s The Uprising
Following last year's The Lost Bus, acclaimed filmmaker Paul Greengrass is shifting gears from modern-day survival to medieval class warfare with his upcoming historical epic, The Uprising, which just unveiled its brutal first trailer.
The Uprising is locked in for a North American and UK theatrical release on September 11, 2026. The film is written, directed, and produced by BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee Paul Greengrass (United 93). The project features a stellar lineup, led by Golden Globe Best Actor winner and former Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield. Joining him is an exceptional cast of British and international talent, including Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot), Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones), BAFTA winner Tom Hollander (The Night Manager), Cosmo Jarvis (Shōgun), Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho), Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary), Woody Norman (C'mon C'mon), and Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts). Behind the scenes, the film reunites top-tier talent with Oscar winner William Goldenberg (Argo) serving as film editor and Oscar winner Volker Bertelmann (All Quiet on the Western Front) composing the original score.
Andrew Garfield stars as the legendary leader of a ferocious rebellion against the tyranny of King Richard II. As war burns across England, he forms an army of the people to face the King’s might in a fight for justice and survival.
Greengrass is celebrated globally for helming three highly successful installments of the Bourne franchise, with The Bourne Ultimatum walking away with three technical Academy Awards. However, he is equally renowned for his gripping, masterfully executed films adapted from real-world history. He earned a Best Director Oscar nomination and a BAFTA win for the real-time thriller United 93, while his high-seas drama Captain Phillips scored six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. His most recent directorial outings, News of the World and The Lost Bus, both continued his streak of technical recognition.
