A Decade Later: Tom Hiddleston Returns in the Teaser Trailer for The Night Manager Season 2

Do you remember the spy series The Night Manager? The first season premiered in 2016, and now, after a long wait, the second season is finally coming next year!

The Night Manager Season 2 is set to premiere on Prime Video on January 11 next year. The season is directed by Georgi Banks-Davies, and David Farr will continue to write for the series. The main cast from the first season—Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, Alistair Petrie, and Douglas Hodge—will return, along with other returning actors including Rex Mayhew, Michael Nardone, and Noah Jupe. New main cast members joining the series include:

  • Diego Calva (Babylon)

  • Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six)

  • Indira Varma (Game of Thrones)

  • Paul Chahidi

  • Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake)

Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) thought he’d buried his past. Now living as Alex Goodwin – a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London – his life is comfortingly uneventful. Then one night a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva). On this perilous new journey, Pine meets Roxana Bolaños (Camila Morrone), a businesswoman who reluctantly helps him infiltrate Teddy’s Colombian arms operation. Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army. As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilise a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late.

The series is based on the novel of the same name by master spy novelist John le Carré. The first season, which premiered in 2016, was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series, and director Susanne Bier won the Emmy for directing. The three stars—Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, and Olivia Colman—each won a Golden Globe for their performances. In the ten years between the first and second seasons, Olivia Colman has gone on to win an Oscar (The Favourite) and an Emmy (The Crown), while Tom Hiddleston has starred in four Marvel films and two seasons of the Loki series, and is set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday late next year. Given that the BBC and Prime Video renewed The Night Manager for both a second and third season last year, it is hoped that the third season won't take quite so many years to premiere!
