Spider-Man Faces the Hulk and The Hand in Explosive New Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer
With only a month and a half left until Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits the big screen, Sony Pictures released the film's highly anticipated latest trailer last week.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31. The fourth installment in the MCU Spider-Man franchise will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and written by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers (The MCU Spider-Man trilogy) and Justin Kuritzkes (Challengers). Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, navigating a lonely new reality. Joining him are several returning MCU veterans: Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/ The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/ Hulk, and Michael Mando, finally returning as Mac Gargan/ Scorpion. In an exciting casting crossover, Marvin Jones III will make his live-action debut as the crime boss Tombstone, a character he previously voiced in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Despite the memory-wipe at the end of the previous film, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are confirmed to return as MJ and Ned. New additions to the cast include Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Emmy winner Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), Emmy winner Tramell Tillman (Severance) and Eman Esfandi (Ahsoka).
At the emotional climax of the previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker chose to make the ultimate sacrifice to patch up the fracturing multiverse, allowing Doctor Strange to wipe everyone's memory of him—effectively erasing his relationship with his best friend and the love of his life. Judging by the new footage, this sequel will see Peter crossing paths with Ned and MJ once again. At the same time, he must confront a dangerous array of threats, including the long-awaited arrival of the Scorpion and the notorious ninja organization from the Daredevil series, "The Hand." Furthermore, the trailer hints at a sinister villain possessing mind-control abilities, a role long-rumored to be played by Sadie Sink. Her character seemingly manipulates Bruce Banner, triggering a catastrophic showdown between The Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man.
Marvel officially kicked off Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) last year with the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Compared to previous eras, Phase 6 features a much leaner theatrical lineup, consisting of just four known films: The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the two upcoming Avengers epics, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel has yet to officially confirm whether Spider-Man and the Hulk will appear in the next two Avengers crossovers. On the television front, Marvel's first half of the year brought Wonder Man, season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, and The Punisher: One Last Kill. This will be followed in October by the live-action series VisionQuest, starring Paul Bettany.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks the fourth solo Spider-Man film produced under the ongoing collaboration between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, serving as the final theatrical stepping stone before Avengers: Doomsday. While Marvel remains tight-lipped regarding the web-slinger's role in the Avengers sequels and the future trajectory of the standalone franchise, Sony Pictures is actively expanding its own Spider-Verse roster. This includes the recently premiered Spider-Noir live-action series and the highly anticipated conclusion to the animated trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, slated for release in June 2027.
