Hulk and Scorpion to Appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day! New Suit Revealed!
Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially began filming a few days ago, and Sony Pictures released the following video revealing the new Spider-Man suit:
Last week, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Mark Ruffalo and Michael Mando will return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, reprising their roles as Hulk/Bruce Banner and Scorpion/Mac Gargan, respectively. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). Tom Holland continues as the protagonist Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Jon Bernthal will return as Frank Castle/The Punisher. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are also reportedly returning as Peter Parker's girlfriend MJ and his best friend Ned. New additions to the cast include Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Emmy winner Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear). At the end of the previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker chose to sacrifice his relationships with his friends and loved ones, causing everyone to forget him, in order to solve a multiverse crisis.
The new Marvel film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, was released last month, officially kicking off Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Compared to previous phases, Phase 6 has a smaller number of films, with only four currently known titles: The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the two Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel has yet to confirm whether Spider-Man and the Hulk will appear in the two Avengers films.
Mark Ruffalo took over the role of Hulk/Bruce Banner from Edward Norton in 2012's The Avengers. Since then, he has only starred in a few Avengers films, Thor: Ragnarok, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, with his other appearances being cameos. Because the film rights for the character still belong to Universal Pictures, Marvel Studios cannot make another solo Hulk movie, so the character can only appear in other characters' films. Each of the previous Spider-Man films has featured a senior Avenger assisting Spider-Man. Spider-Man: Homecoming had Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Spider-Man: Far From Home had Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and Spider-Man: No Way Home had Doctor Strange/Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). It is believed that the Hulk will serve a similar role in this new film.
The Scorpion/Mac Gargan previously appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, where he was about to make a weapons deal with Vulture/Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) but was arrested by the FBI after Spider-Man intervened. In that film's post-credits scene, he met Adrian Toomes in prison, seeking to learn Spider-Man's true identity to get revenge, but was unsuccessful. It is believed that Spider-Man 4 will continue this storyline, with Mac Gargan seeking revenge on Spider-Man, and he may appear in his comic book Scorpion form.
