Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, and Jeremy Strong May Star in The Social Network Part II
The Social Network Part II may feature an incredible cast of award-winning actors.
According to exclusive reports from Deadline and The Hollywood Reporterlast week, Oscar winner Mikey Madison (Anora), two-time Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), and Emmy winner Jeremy Strong (Succession) are being considered to star in The Social Network Part II. The film is being written and directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, who penned the original The Social Network. The sequel reportedly will not be a direct continuation of the first film's plot. Instead, it's an adaptation of The Wall Street Journal's 2021 exposé, "The Facebook Files." The story is expected to revolve around Facebook's internal operations and its harmful impact on children, teenagers, and other countries, likely touching on the January 2021 Capitol riot. Reports suggest that if the casting is finalized, Mikey Madison will play whistleblower Frances Haugen, Jeremy Allen White will portray reporter Jeff Horwitz, who wrote "The Facebook Files," and Jeremy Strong might either play a Wall Street Journal editor or take over the role of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg from Jesse Eisenberg.
The first The Social Network, released in 2010, was directed by David Fincher (Gone Girl) and centered on Mark Zuckerberg's founding of Facebook. The film received stellar reviews, winning a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture and Best Director, a BAFTA for Best Director, and an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. It is widely considered one of the best films of the 2010s and the 21st century so far, ranking 10th and 13th on recent "Best of the Century" lists from The New York Times and Rolling Stone, respectively.
Aaron Sorkin is one of Hollywood's most successful screenwriters. His early work on The West Wing won four consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series, and he won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for its first season. In addition to The Social Network, he also won Golden Globes for Best Screenplay for Steve Jobs and The Trial of the Chicago 7. In recent years, he has also directed his own scripts, including Molly's Game, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Being the Ricardos. His directing work has received praise, with the films earning numerous nominations and awards for their cast performances.
The three actors being considered for The Social Network Part II are among the most celebrated in Hollywood today:
Mikey Madison starred in Better Things and won both an Oscar and a BAFTA for Best Actress this year for her role in Anora.
Jeremy Allen White has won two Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes for Best Actor for his performance in The Bear.
Jeremy Strong previously starred in two of Sorkin's directorial projects, The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Molly's Game. He went on to win an Emmy and a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his work in Succession, and this year he was nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor for The Apprentice.
Both Jeremy Allen White and Jeremy Strong are also set to star in the music biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, which will be released in October and is expected to garner major award nominations.
