The Quest for Maxima: Andor and Alien: Earth Stars Shortlisted for DC’s Man of Tomorrow
The Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow will be released next July, and the production team is currently casting for the comic book character Maxima.
Adria Arjona, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten are participating in the casting process for the DC Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, competing for the role of the comic book character Maxima.
The Hollywood Reporter recently reported exclusively that Adria Arjona (Andor), Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler (Alien: Earth) and Grace Van Patten (Nine Perfect Strangers), are involved in the casting process for the DC Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow to play Maxima. In the comics, this character has been an enemy, an ally, and a love interest to Superman.
Man of Tomorrow will be released in North America on July 9, 2027. James Gunn, the director of the previous installment and the head of the DC Universe (DCU), will return to write and direct. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will return as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively; the two will reportedly team up to face an enemy in the film. In addition to the two leads, Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, and Edi Gathegi are reported to return. Aaron Pierre, the lead of the Green Lantern series Lanterns premiering in August, will play Green Lantern John Stewart in the film, while Lars Eidinger (All the Light We Cannot See) will play the villain Brainiac.
In 2022, Warner Bros. decided to reboot the DC film franchise, appointing James Gunn and Aquaman producer Peter Safran as Co-Chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios. Superman, written and directed by Gunn, was released last summer to positive reviews, earning over $600 million at the box office and ranking tenth in last year's global box office charts. As the first live-action film of the rebooted DCU, Superman featured an entirely new cast, including David Corenswet (The Politician) as Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent, Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult (Beast from the X-Men franchise) as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi (For All Mankind) as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion (Castle) as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Hawkgirl.
The DC Universe operates similarly to other cinematic universes, with connections between different films and series. Rick Flag Sr. (played by Frank Grillo), the protagonist of the animated series Creature Commandos, appeared in the Superman film. He will also appear alongside Superman characters Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, and Maxwell Lord (played by Sean Gunn) in the second season of Peacemaker. Guy Gardner is also one of the leads in the live-action series Lanterns. Additionally, María Gabriela de Faría and Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) appeared in Superman as Angela Spica/The Engineer and Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, respectively; they will later appear in the upcoming film The Authority and the Supergirl movie releasing this June. The next DCU film, Supergirl, arrives in June, followed by the Lanterns series in August, and the body horror film Clayface in October.
