The Mind’s Shifting Limits: Mia Goth and Andrew Scott to Lead Justine Triet’s Fonda

Following the massive global success of Anatomy of a Fall, Oscar-winning filmmaker Justine Triet is set to direct her first full English-language feature, a psychological thriller titled Fonda.

Mia Goth (Frankenstein) and Andrew Scott (Blue Moon) will star in Fonda, which will be directed and written by Justine Triet (Anatomy of a Fall).

Deadline exclusively reported last week that Oscar Best Original Screenplay winner Justine Triet (Anatomy of a Fall) is set to direct and write her first full English-language feature, a psychological thriller titled Fonda. Mia Goth (Frankenstein) and BAFTA winner Andrew Scott (Sherlock) will star in the film while Oscar winner Allison Janney (I, Tonya) is currently in negotiations for a key role. The remaining cast includes Frank Dillane (Fear the Walking Dead) and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Candyman). Described as a psychological thriller set in a seemingly idyllic huis clos, the film takes us on a vertiginous dive into the shifting limits of a sound mind, as grief and obsession take hold.

Triet's previous film, Anatomy of a Fall, was one of the most decorated films of the 2020s:

  • Cannes Film Festival: Won the Palme d'Or.

  • European Film Awards: Won Best Film, Best European Director, Best European Screenwriter and two other awards

  • Academy Awards: Won Best Original Screenplay

  • Golden Globes: Won Best Picture – Non-English Language and Best Screenplay

For the past year, Sandra, her husband Samuel, and their eleven-year-old son Daniel have lived a secluded life in a remote town in the French Alps. When Samuel is found dead in the snow below their chalet, the police question whether he was murdered or committed suicide. Samuel's suspicious death is presumed murder, and Sandra becomes the main suspect. What follows is not just an investigation into the circumstances of Samuel's death but an unsettling psychological journey into the depths of Sandra and Samuel's conflicted relationship.
