Premiering Next Month! Marvel's New Series Ironheart Releases First Trailer!

Following Thunderbolts*, which hit theaters two weeks ago, Marvel will launch its new series Ironheart on Disney+ next month. They released the first trailer for the show just recently:

The first three episodes of Ironheart will premiere on Disney+ on June 24th. The series is created by Chinaka Hodge (Snowpiercer TV series), and directed by Sam Bailey (Dear White People) and Angela Barnes (Mythic Quest). The series stars Dominique Thorne (Judas and the Black Messiah) as the protagonist Riri Williams, who made her first appearance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever two and a half years ago. Anthony Ramos, the lead actor in In the Heights, will play the comic book villain The Hood/Parker Robbins, with early reports suggesting he will have a more significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Other main cast members include Lyric Ross (This is Us), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Manny Montana (Good Girls). Additionally, Golden Globe winner Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) is also part of the cast, with his mysterious role rumored to be the long-awaited demon Mephisto.

Riri Williams, in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, developed a machine capable of detecting vibranium, which led to her being seen as a threat by Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía) and his people. Later, with Shuri's (Letitia Wright) help, she developed armor similar to Iron Man's, assisting the Wakandan people in their fight against Namor and his forces. However, at the end of the film, she left her armor in Wakanda and returned to the United States alone to complete her studies. As a genius inventor, Riri's world, like Iron Man/Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.), is primarily based on science and technology. However, the villain of this series, The Hood, mainly uses dark magic, which is expected to bring significant conflict to Riri's world. The two directors have primarily worked on comedies in the past, suggesting that this series will also lean towards a lighter tone.

In addition to the trailer above, Marvel has also released the latest poster for the series:

Marvel announced the development of this series in 2020, and filming began shortly after the completion of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022. The series is premiering two and a half years after filming wrapped, likely due to the extensive visual effects involved. However, with Marvel's recent projects facing some setbacks in box office performance and critical reception, they have adjusted their strategy to reduce the number of releases to a maximum of three films (similar to previous years), two series, and two animated projects per year. Regarding series production, they have also shifted to a more traditional television series model, hiring showrunners to lead the creative and production processes for each series, and reducing production budgets. Furthermore, these series will have more than one season, focusing on their own storylines, reducing connections to the films, and no longer centering on movie characters as protagonists.

Following Ironheart, Marvel will release Wonder Man later this year. They are also currently filming the Vision series Vision Quest and the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, with Krysten Ritter returning as Jessica Jones in the latter. It is believed that these projects will showcase the changes in Marvel's approach to series production.
