LAIKA Debuts Official Trailer for Handcrafted Epic 'Wildwood' Ahead of October Release

Following his two live-action productions—Bumblebee and Masters of the Universe—director Travis Knight returns to stop-motion animation with Wildwood, releasing its official trailer last week!

Scheduled for a North American theatrical release on October 23, 2026, Wildwood is adapted from the novel by Colin Meloy. Helmed by Travis Knight, the director of Kubo and the Two Strings, which won the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film, the screenplay is penned by Kubo writer Chris Butler, with an original score by Oscar winner Dario Marianelli (Atonement).

After her baby brother is abducted by a murder of crows, headstrong teenager Prue McKeel launches a desperate rescue mission into the Impassable Wilderness—an enchanted forest hidden just beyond Portland, Oregon. Joined by her hapless but loyal classmate Curtis Mehlberg, Prue navigates a world of talking animals, bandits, and powerful figures driven by grief and ambition.  As the pair is drawn into a conflict threatening the balance of the forest itself, Prue must discover strength and belief she never knew she possessed. If she hopes to save her brother and protect Wildwood’s fragile future, she will have to risk everything.

Every stop-motion feature produced by LAIKA has earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature. Among their achievements, Kubo and the Two Strings won the BAFTA for Best Animated Film, while Missing Link secured a Golden Globe Award. Beyond directing duties on Kubo and Wildwood, Travis Knight serves as President and CEO of LAIKA. In recent years, he expanded into live-action filmmaking, directing Bumblebee—the most critically praised entry in the Transformers franchise—and Masters of the Universe.
