To the Stars! Trailer and Poster Launch for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Following yesterday's news about the Toy Story 5 trailer, another major animated blockbuster for next year—The Super Mario Galaxy Movie—has also released its first trailer:

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be released in North America on April 3 next year. The film sees the return of the two directors from the previous film, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and the return of screenwriter Matthew Fogel. In addition to the returning cast from the previous film, Academy Award-winning actress and Captain Marvel star Brie Larson (Room) will voice Rosalina, while the recent Venice Film Festival Silver Lion winner for The Smashing Machine, Benny Safdie (Good Time), will voice Bowser Jr., Bowser's son.

The previous installment, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, was released in 2023, grossing over $1.3 billion worldwide. It ranked second at the box office that year and fifth on the all-time animated film box office list. The movie was a joint production between Illumination and Nintendo and is Illumination's highest-grossing film to date. In addition to this new Mario film, Illumination will also release Minions 3 in July next year. The previous two Minions films grossed over $1.1 billion and $900 million, respectively. This means Illumination is likely to have two films next year that could approach the $1 billion mark at the box office.

The studio also released a poster alongside the trailer.
