A Dangerous Mutation: Watch the Official Trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Following yesterday’s epic reveal for Dune: Part Three, Marvel has kept the momentum going by dropping the first official trailer for the highly anticipated sequel, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31. The fourth installment in the MCU Spider-Man franchise will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers (The MCU Spider-Man trilogy). Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, navigating a lonely new reality. Joining him are several returning MCU veterans: Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/ The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/ Hulk, and Michael Mando, finally returning as Mac Gargan/ Scorpion. In an exciting casting crossover, Marvin Jones III will make his live-action debut as the crime boss Tombstone, a character he previously voiced in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Despite the memory-wipe at the end of the previous film, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are confirmed to return as MJ and Ned. New additions to the cast include Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Emmy winner Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), Emmy winner Tramell Tillman (Severance) and Eman Esfandi (Ahsoka).
During the emotional finale of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker sacrificed his personal history to save the multiverse, with the world—including his closest friends and the Avengers—having no memory of who Peter Parker is. Based on the footage in the trailer, Peter’s body appears to be undergoing a secondary mutation. In addition to the long-teased Scorpion, the trailer hints at the involvement of the ninja organization "The Hand" from the Daredevil series. There are also glimpses of a mysterious antagonist with mind-control abilities. Rumors continue to swirl that this character is played by Sadie Sink.
Marvel Studios officially kicked off Phase 6 last year with The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This phase appears to be more streamlined, with only four major theatrical releases currently confirmed:
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Avengers: Secret Wars
While Marvel has yet to confirm if Spider-Man or The Hulk will appear in the upcoming Avengers films, the TV slate remains busy:
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2: Premiering this month.
The Punisher Special Event: Set for this summer.
VisionQuest: Starring Paul Bettany, expected by the end of the year.
