Predators Become the Hunted? Predator: Badlands Official Trailer and Poster Revealed!
Following the animated film Predator: Killer of Killers two months ago, another live-action Predator movie, Predator: Badlands, has just released its latest trailer:
Predator: Badlands is set to open in North American theaters on November 7th. The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, known for 10 Cloverfield Lane and his previous two Predator projects, Prey and the animated Predator: Killer of Killers. Elle Fanning (Maleficent series) stars as Thia, a andriod in the film. The story takes place in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator, outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. Unlike previous Predator installments where Predators hunted humans, in this movie, the Predator is ironically the one being hunted by other Predators and monsters.
The Predator franchise has seen six films and two Alien crossover movies, Alien vs. Predator, whose plots haven't typically been deeply interconnected. However, the ending of the previous film, Predator: Killer of Killers, revealed that Predators were abducting warriors from different times and locations, including Naru (Amber Midthunder), the protagonist of Prey. We might see more connections to previous entries in Predator: Badlands, perhaps even the return of protagonists from earlier Predator films in the near future.
In addition to the trailer, 20th Century Studios also released the film's latest poster:
Beyond the shift in the Predator's role, Elle Fanning's character is also drawing significant attention. This android is manufactured by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, a company frequently featured in the Alien series. This once again confirms that these two alien monster franchises share the same cinematic universe, leading to speculation about whether another Alien vs. Predator film is being set up. The first Alien series, Alien: Earth, is set to premiere on Disney+ next month, so audiences will get to see new entries from both major alien monster franchises within the next two months.
