Daniel Craig and Cillian Murphy May Star in La La Land Director Damien Chazelle's Next Film!
Three years after the release of his last film, Babylon, Academy Award-winning director Damien Chazelle's next project finally appears to be moving forward.
Deadline exclusively reported yesterday that former 007 actor Daniel Craig and Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) are in talks with Paramount to potentially star in the next film directed by Damien Chazelle (La La Land). The movie, written and directed by Chazelle himself, is set in a prison and is expected to begin filming at the end of this year. The director was originally planning a biopic centered on famous stuntman Evel Knievel, with Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant) eyed for the lead. However, The Hollywood Reporter indicated that Leonardo DiCaprio decided to temporarily step away from that project to once again collaborate with the aging Academy Award-winning director of The Departed, Martin Scorsese.
Damien Chazelle is currently one of Hollywood's most highly anticipated young directors and is the youngest Best Director winner in Oscar history. His film Whiplash won Oscars in 2015 for Best Supporting Actor (J.K. Simmons), Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. La La Land took home Oscars in 2017 for Best Director, Best Actress (Emma Stone), Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, and Best Production Design. First Man then won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 2019. His most recent work was 2022's Babylon, starring Academy Award winner Brad Pitt (Once Upon A Time… in Hollywood) and Margot Robbie (Barbie). However, the film received polarized reviews and underperformed at the box office, leading to a loss of over $80 million for Paramount.
