DiCaprio, Lawrence to Star in Scorsese's Next Film, What Happens At Night

With his new film One Battle After Another set to premiere next week, Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio seems to have found his next leading role.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence previously starred together in Don’t Look Up.

Deadline recently reported that Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese (The Departed) will direct What Happens At Night. The film will star frequent collaborator and Oscar Best Actor winner Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant) and fellow Oscar Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook). Apple, the studio behind Scorsese’s last film, Killers of the Flower Moon, is reportedly interested in producing it, with filming expected to begin next January.

The film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Peter Cameron. An unnamed American couple travels to a strange, snowy European city to adopt a baby. It’s a difficult journey that leaves the wife, who is struggling with cancer, desperately weak, and her husband worries that her illness will prevent the orphanage from releasing their child. On arrival, the couple checks into the cavernous and eerily deserted Borgarfjaroasysla Grand Imperial Hotel where the bar is always open and the lobby populated with an enigmatic cast of characters ranging from an ancient, flamboyant chanteuse to a debauched businessman to an enigmatic faith healer. Nothing is as it seems in this baffling, frozen world, and the more the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about their marriage, themselves, and life itself.

As one of Hollywood’s most influential directors, Martin Scorsese’s new projects are always highly anticipated. This film, which brings together two Oscar-winning actors, is even more so. Since Gangs of New York in 2002, the director has collaborated with Leonardo DiCaprio six times, including on films that earned DiCaprio Golden Globe wins, such as The Aviator and The Wolf of Wall Street. In addition to this project, Scorsese is also reportedly preparing a film about Jesus, a film adapted from Marilynne Robinson’s novel Home, and a film about Hawaiian gangsters.
