ince Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Lucasfilm has not released any new Star Wars films, instead focusing on a slate of series like The Mandalorian, Andor, and The Acolyte. The next Star Wars film, The Mandalorian and Grogu, is set to premiere in May of next year. Directed by Jon Favreau, the showrunner of the series and director of the Iron Man films, the script is co-written by him and Dave Filoni, the series writer and Lucasfilm's chief creative officier. In addition to the return of the two main characters, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu, the film will also feature two-time Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) voicing Jabba the Hutt's son, Rotta the Hutt. Sigourney Weaver (Alien series) will play a New Republic leader, Jonny Coyne will reprise his role as an Imperial remnant, and the character Zeb (voiced by Steve Blum) from Star Wars Rebels will also appear.
Lucasfilm also released the first behind-the-scenes photo from the film.

Beyond these two films, Lucasfilm is also in the process of developing several other Star Wars movies, including:
A Jedi origin film directed by James Mangold (Logan).
A film written and directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok).
A film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel), set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, with Daisy Ridley returning as the sequel trilogy's protagonist, Rey.
A new film trilogy being written by director/screenwriter Simon Kinberg (X-Men series).
In terms of TV shows, Star Wars's upcoming slate for this year and next year is primarily animated, with the only known live-action project being the second season of Ahsoka.
