From Elio to Coco 2: Pixar's Next 6 Films!

At last week's Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Pixar held a presentation, unveiling details on several upcoming projects.

Elio, Canadian Release Date: June 20th

Directed by Adrian Molina (Coco), Domee Shi (Turning Red), and Madeline Sharafian, with a screenplay by Julia Cho (Turning Red), Mike Jones (Soul), and Mark Hammer. Recent Academy Award Winner Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez) will voice Elio's aunt, while Jameela Jamil (The Good Place) and comedian Brad Garrett (Night at the Museum) will voice aliens. Olivier Award winner Shirley Henderson will voice a supercomputer.

This summer, moviegoers will meet Elio, an 11-year-old whose biggest wish is to get abducted by aliens, as well as his Aunt Olga (voiced by recent Academy Award Winner, Zoe Saldaña), and Glordon, Elio’s unexpected first friend who happens to be an alien. In this big-screen adventure, Elio will travel millions of miles across the universe encountering a host of out-of-this world creatures who just might help him figure out exactly where he belongs.

Hoppers, Release Date: March 6th, 2026

Directed and written by Daniel Chong (We Bare Bears: The Movie), the voice cast includes comedian Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live) and Emmy winner Jon Hamm (Mad Men). In this film, scientists have found a way to transfer human consciousness into robotic animals, allowing them to communicate with other animals in animal form. Young nature enthusiast Mabel (Piper Curda) is trying to stop local mayor Jerry (Jon Hamm) from building a highway that will destroy her hometown's forest. Thanks to a secret consciousness transfer experiment, Mabel is able to transfer her consciousness into a robotic beaver and travels to a pond, where she meets a group of animal refugees affected by industrialization. There, she tries to persuade the animals, led by the majestic Beaver King George (Bobby Moynihan), to join her in stopping the highway construction.

Toy Story 5, Release Date: June 19th, 2026

Directed and written by Oscar-winning director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, WALL-E), this film will revolve around a story of toys battling technology. Bonnie is now 8 years old in this installment, and the protagonists must face the challenges posed by Bonnie's new favorite: a tablet computer. In addition to the returning main cast from previous installments, new cast members include talk show host Conan O’Brien and Anna Faris (Mom). Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters series) will take over the voice of Combat Carl, replacing the late Carl Weathers who passed away last year.

Gatto, Release Date: June 18th, 2027

At last week's Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Pixar's Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter announced this brand new project. The film is directed by Enrico Casarosa (Luca). Like Luca, the film is set in Italy and tells the story of a black cat named Nero who, owing a favor to a feline mob boss, is forced into an unexpected friendship with a street musician named Maya. This may ultimately lead him to discover his true purpose... From preliminary animation footage, the film's visuals blend 2D hand-drawn animation with Pixar's traditional CG animation, marking a new experimental approach for them.

Incredibles 3, Release Date: 2028

At last year's D23 Expo presentation, Pixar announced they were developing Incredibles 3. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported last week that Peter Sohn (Elemental) will direct this film, with Brad Bird, director of the first two installments, returning to write the story.

Coco 2, Release Date: 2029

At this year's Disney shareholder meeting in March, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Pixar is developing Coco 2. Both Lee Unkrich, director of the first film, and Adrian Molina, co-director, will return to direct. Interestingly, although the film's title is Coco, its protagonist is actually Coco's grandson, Miguel, and Coco herself passed away at the end of the first film. It remains to be seen if the sequel will retain the original film's title.
